Winter league: final round

Winter League Winners 2012With first place already decided, the final round of the Cornwall winter league saw intense competition for the remainder of the spots on the prizes board. The competition took place at the Star Inn, St Day, on Sunday 11 March.

Holding on to the second place they gained in the previous round were Mike Hill (Tregony PC) and Robert Herrick (Rising Sun PC, Altarnun). Two more wins gave them a final points total of 67. Just behind them on 65 and with three wins in the final round were Roy Pemberton, Pete English and Mark McDermott (Treleigh Arms - TAPS).

In fourth place were Jock Turnham and Gordon Couch on 62 points, followed by Colin ‘Boot’ Booth and Pete Downing of the North Inn Petanque Club, Pendeen, with 60. Both teams had two wins.

Overall winners of the competition were Graeme Kirkham and Susan Williamson of Tregony PC. However, after dropping only two games over all of the earlier rounds they had a disastrous final day, losing all three.

Other results (to tenth place) were: 6th - Andrew and Sarah Jarvis (TAPS), 57 points; 7th - David and Rosemary Piggin (Tregony PC), 55 points; 8th - Kate Herrick and Peter Wayland (Rising Sun PC) and Paul Rundle (Tregony PC), 47 points; 9th - Richard Lapworth, Arnaud Ruetsch and Ruth Beresford, 46 points; 10th - Anthony Frost, Rod Walker and Roger Weiss, 40 points.
