No April Fools for start of season

Cornwall’s traditional first event of the petanque calendar, the Easter Egg Shoot, was held at the Star Inn, St Day, on Sunday 1 April. Despite bright sunshine there was a low turnout of only eight teams.
Overall winners were Simon Penna (Treleigh Arms Petanque Society – TAPS), Graeme Kirkham and Susan Williamson (both Tregony Petanque Club), who won all five games during the day. Runners-up were Barbara Brown, Lena Daddow and Pete Lynas.
In third place were the Angel-Headed Hipsters – Gordon Couch, Anthony Frost and Jock Turnham – followed by the Rams: Wendy Booker, Peter Gliddon and Kate Herrick (Rising Sun Petanque Club).
The Plate competition was won by Pete English and Andrew Jarvis (TAPS) with Paul Rundle (Tregony PC). Runners-up were Sarah Jarvis, Des and Barbara Yates (all TAPS). In equal third place were last year’s winners of the Easter Egg Shoot, Robert Herrick (Rising Sun PC), Roy Pemberton and Rob Sullivan (both TAPS), and a pick-up triple made up of Rod Walker and two first-time players, Tina English and John Ransome.
Next event in the Cornwall calendar is the Regional Doubles, to be held at the Star on 15 April (Kernow Petanque members only). Watch this page for more details.
