New Cornwall singles champion

Winner of the 2012 Kernow Pétanque Singles title is Simon Penna of the Treleigh Arms Pétanque Society (TAPS). He adds this victory to the Cornwall doubles trophy, which he and partner Paul Lancaster won last month.

The competition was held at the Star Inn on Sunday 20 May and despite a fine warm day - perfect pétanque weather - attracted a disappointingly small entry of only 13 players.

The semi-finals saw Simon win 13-9 against Steven Boyne, defending holder of the Singles trophy, who had won the competition for the past three years. In the other semi, Andrew Jarvis, Kernow Pétanque Playing Officer and also of TAPS, beat another TAPS player, Rob Sullivan, 13-11.

Score for the final between Simon and Andrew was 13-4. Steven Boyne beat Rob Sullivan 13-7 to take third place in the event.

In the final of the Plate competition Roy Pemberton, another TAPS member, won 13-5 against Peter Lynas of Trengilly Wartha.
