Petanque in the sun

After a very cold start, winter sunshine on Sunday 8 February warmed to the point where some players in the winter league round held at the Star, St Day, were spotted in shirtsleeves! Cornwall in February - balmy!

The top of the table didn't change but any of the three leading teams could now in theory take first place after the four games in next month's final round.

Still in the lead are Ray Beresford (North Inn PC) and Andrew Jarvis (Vogue PC) with 16 wins and a points difference of +69. Close behind them, with 15 wins and +82 are Graeme Kirkham and Susan Williamson (Tregony PC).

Still in third place are Terry Jones and Roy Pemberton (Coaching Inn), with 13 wins (+25).

Behind them are two teams on nine wins: Richard Lapworth and Arnaud Ruetsch (North Inn PC) have a points difference of -20, putting them just behind Rod Walker (Vogue PC) and Gordon Couch (Rising Sun PC) with a difference of -19.

Two teams are on seven wins: Sue Hardy and Mark Hypponen (Tregony PC) have a points difference of +5, putting them just ahead of Rob Sullivan (Coaching Inn) and Colin 'Boot' Booth (North Inn) on -4,

The final round of the competition will take place at the Star on Sunday 8 March.
