New Cornwall Singles champions

Six women and 15 men competed in the 2016 Kernow Petanque Singles competitions held yesterday, Sunday 31 July, at the Star Inn, St Day.

The new women's title holder is Kate Herrick (Rising Sun PC), who ended narrowly ahead of Tregony PC's Susan Williamson on points difference. Both had four wins from the five games played but Kate had +25 to Susan's +14.

Third place went to Lena Daddow of Vogue PC with 3 wins and +3.

The men's contest was won by Simon Penna against fellow Coaching Inn PC member Rob Sullivan. Precision pointing ruled in a very close match which eventually went to Simon 13-10.

It was Simon's third victory in the Singles competition, having previously taken the title in 2012 and 2013.

In the semi-finals Simon beat last year's champion, the North Inn PC's Colin 'Boot' Booth. Rob took the other semi 13-11 against the 2015 runner-up, Graeme Kirkham of Tregony PC. Graeme beat Boot in the playoff for third place.

Ray Beresford (North Inn) won the men's Plate final against Tregony's Paul Rundle.
