Cornwall (sub-aqua) petanque league

It was wet - very, very wet - for the first match in the Cornwall summer league, with Tregony at home to North Inn B on Sunday 30 April.

For the first of three triples games Tregony's Susan Williamson, Paul Rundle and Pete Lynas faced Colin 'Boot' Booth, Ray Beresford and new Kernow member Bill Kingdon.

The rain was torrential, making grip and release on the boules extremely difficult. There wasn't quite enough water on the terrain to float a jack, although it was close, but very quickly the playing surface turned to mush.

Tregony started well and despite a North Inn recovery the home team took the first game 13-7.

After lunch - big thanks to Jo Foster and Tregony Sports Club for a very fine chicken curry - and with the rain petering out, the second Tregony squad took the field. Tony and Di Smith and Graeme Kirkham played Boot, Bill and Ray in the second triples, with the home team coming out winners by the narrower margin of 13-10.

Susan, Peter and Paul came back on for the third game and took it 13-9. Final score 3-0 to Tregony.

Well done to all for braving the weather: roll on summer!
