Cornwall doubles result

North Inn's Pete English and Andrew Jarvis of Vogue PC took the top place in the Cornwall doubles competition, played today at the Star Inn, St Day.

Pete and Drew won two of their three league games in the morning to take a place in the main competition, then beat Simon Penna and Rob Sullivan (Coaching Inn PC) 13-4 in the semis.

They took the final 13-9 against Colin 'Boot' Booth (North Inn) and Graeme Kirkham (Tregony PC), who had won their semi-final against Vogue PC's Barbara Brown and Lena Daddow 13-1.

Winners of the plate competition were Eric Guy (Coaching Inn) and Mark Hypponen (North Inn), who beat Tony and Di Smith (Tregony) 13-10 in the plate final.

It was a disappointing turnout of only eight pairs for the event, the first regional competition of the 2017 calendar, but the sun shone and the Star's beer is always good, so . . . . .

The next major event on the regional calendar is the annual match against Devon, to be played at the Star this year, which takes place on 9 July.
