Cornwall Singles and Doubles Champions - No Changes

The latest Kernow Pétanque competitions to be played were the regional Singles and Doubles events, and unusually both were won by last year's winners.

The Singles competition was held at the Star Inn, St Day, on 16 May and had a good turnout of more than 20 players. Repeating last year's victory was Steven Boyne, who beat Peter Lynas of Trengilly Wartha Petanque Club in the final. Third place went to Simon Penna of the Treleigh Arms Petanque Society, Redruth. Anthony Frost won the Plate competition with second place going to Susan Williamson.

Turnout for the Doubles competition was disappointing, with only six teams taking part, but the weather was fine and there was some good petanque played during the day. Winners, as in 2009, were Paul Rundle and Graeme Kirkham of Tregony Sports and Social Club, who beat Simon Penna and Rob Sullivan of the Treleigh Arms 13-0 in the final.

The next competition will be the regional Triples event, to be held at the Star on 11 July.
